Lots of stuff happening, not enough time to write about it. Or so it seems, because I haven’t written in a very long time but I’m not actually doing very much. I fill my time with marvelous, great big bundles of nothing. I watch movies, I read books, I occasionally have a part-time job babysitting or cat feeding or plant watering. Every Wednesday we have Bollywood night, which is slowly (due to my influence, ha!) morphing into Bollywood and Veronica Mars night, switching off host houses every week. I spend a lot of time in Barnes and Noble, reading and drinking coffee and sneaking peeks at the gorgeous cashier guy who likes to talk Plato with me when the customer line is nonexistant and I’ve just bought a book. Somehow this leisure time is the kind that won’t exist for long after this summer, so I revel in it.

I visited the Apple store at the upper fringes of Midtown, though I guess it’s really the Upper West Side by that point: 59th and 5th Avenue, thereabouts. It’s a marvel in glass and silver, beautiful and teeming with people. I’ve fallen in love there. With a MacBook Pro, which I’ll have to buy before heading off on my six-day backpacking and inner tubing pre-orientation (pre-pre-school, in other words) trip. This computer, though much-used and loved, is old and dying. It’s on its last legs. And I won’t be too sorry to see the last of it.

I’m sorry I didn’t meet Anjali’s friends from Bronx Science before this summer, because I really like them and we’re all heading in different directions for college. But every chance I have to see them, I like them even more, so who knows whether we’ll end up lasting friends? It’s a definite possibility, and I hope it happens. Admittedly, though, I’m spending a lot of time alone, which is good and bad in its own ways. I’m hungry now so I’ll probably head to Zabar’s for a sandwich and a Martinelli’s or something, and then I'll go over to feed Ella’s cats. I might go see Devil Wears Prada, but I need my academic advisor to call me back so I can deal with my being wait-listed for IFP fall semester. Which is not good. As I plan to be a writing major and as of right now I am shut out of a WRITING CLASS.

Time to go wallow in the heat somewhere or other. Damn heat wave.

Make them go, it was never supposed to be like this

I spent one day watching movies and letting all my phone calls go to voicemail. I watched The Squid and the Whale and Y Tu Mama Tambien, and a few VM episodes. Now I feel better but I had to wallow just a little bit because my heart was a little bit broken. But I've got some good options open and I'm pleased with the way things turned out.

Montreal was fantastic - everything from wandering through St.-Denis at 11:30 at night, to drunkenly meeting Wezzy and his crew, to the delicious pears at Jean-Talon, to waltzing in the park outside the Biosphere, to flattening pennies on train tracks in Old Montreal, to the innumerable coffees, cafe lattes, cappuccinos, and cafe mochas, to shopping with Hollis at American stores despite being in another country, to the store that sells every style of Converse sneaker ever created, to the 10-hour train rides and being held up at customs, to the dark costume shop and planning a masquerade ball, to fondues and crepes and baguettes, to playing music loudly in our room and sipping daquiris before playing cards until 1 in the morning. HAZE in Montreal = love.
